ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Jun, 2026) Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday said that the positive economic benefits of the government's policies would be passed on to the public once regional peace was fully restored and normalcy returned.

Speaking during a meeting with women members of parliament belonging to the Pakistan Muslim League (N), the prime minister said lasting peace in the region was essential for economic growth and prosperity, adding that stability would help create conditions for greater public relief and development.

The prime minister thanked the women parliamentarians for their active participation in the ongoing budget session and said the government had made every effort to provide maximum relief to citizens in the Budget 2026-27.

He noted that several initiatives had been proposed to empower women and increase their participation in national development.

The prime minister emphasized that empowering Pakistani women to play a full role in national development was among the government's top priorities.

He remarked that, by the grace of Allah, tensions in the region had subsided and efforts for peace had succeeded.

The prime minister expressed gratitude to friendly countries that fully supported efforts to establish peace.

He stated that since the beginning of the tensions, the Government of Pakistan, particularly Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, and the entire government team, had worked sincerely and actively toward restoring peace.

He noted that lasting peace in the region and across the world was essential for Pakistan and other countries to achieve their economic development goals.

He said that over recent months, the government made every possible effort to shield the public from the effects of global inflation.

"By the grace of Allah, unlike some other countries in the region, Pakistan did not face any crisis, nor were there long queues for fuel," the prime minister said adding that due to effective planning by the government team, not only were citizens protected from hardship as much as possible, but, in cooperation with Federal and provincial governments, a historic relief package was also provided for the middle class and economically vulnerable segments of society.

The prime minister said that during the recent crisis, sacrifices began first with the cabinet and government institutions.

"It was unacceptable for the public to make sacrifices while the elite continue to enjoy privileges," he added.

The government, he said, provided Rs. 128 billion in subsidies and launched a large-scale austerity campaign to reduce public hardship.

The prime minister said that despite difficult economic circumstances, the government presented a people-friendly budget that would accelerate industrial activity and promote an export-oriented economy.

He added that next year's budget focuses on national priorities, particularly expanding water reservoirs, information technology, agriculture, and minerals, in order to provide a stronger foundation for Pakistan's economy.

He emphasized that all these achievements were the result of the collective efforts of "Team Pakistan" and expressed confidence that this team will place Pakistan among the ranks of developed nations.

They also commended the prime minister and the government's economic team for including measures in the budget aimed at empowering women and ensuring equal opportunities in education and development.
