PMDC urged to approve hike in medical college seats

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Apr, 2026) The Punjab Health Department has sent a reminder letter to the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) regarding the increase in seats in the government medical colleges, urging immediate action to facilitate the upcoming academic session.

According to the letter sent on Saturday, the Punjab government had initially requested an increase of 475 seats in government medical colleges on August 21, 2025. The matter was subsequently considered in the PMDC meeting, where it received in-principle approval.

However, the Health Department noted that formal permission and an official notification for the increase in seats has not yet been issued. The delay, it stated, could impact preparations for the 2026-27 admission session.

The department has requested PMDC to complete the necessary process at the earliest and treat the matter on an emergency basis to ensure that the additional seats are made available in time for admissions.
