PML-N leader calls for tax relief, urges business-friendly economic policies

CHINIOT, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th Jun, 2026) Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) District Chiniot senior leader Sheikh Qaiser Mahmood Chiniot on Sunday voiced concern over the increasing tax burden and prevailing economic challenges, saying the middle class, traders and salaried individuals were facing mounting financial pressure.

In a statement, he said the expansion of the tax net and rising inflation over the past few years had placed a disproportionate burden on ordinary citizens. He claimed that small shopkeepers, daily wage earners and salaried employees in Chiniot were being subjected to tax obligations that should primarily fall on large industrial and commercial enterprises.

The PML-N leader also said that soaring electricity and gas tariffs, coupled with additional taxes on goods and services, had adversely affected businesses and reduced the purchasing power of the public.

He maintained that traders and the middle class formed the backbone of the national economy and deserved greater support rather than additional financial strain.

Sheikh Qaiser Mahmood urged the government to adopt business-friendly and people-centric economic policies, review the existing taxation framework, and provide immediate and practical relief to low- and middle-income groups as well as small business owners. He said a realistic tax structure was essential to stimulate economic activity and protect livelihoods.
