Police seize non-duty-paid cigarettes at inter-provincial checkpoint

BHAKKAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Jun, 2026) The police on Thursday said they had seized a large quantity of non-duty-paid cigarettes during an operation against illegal trade at the Dajal interprovincial checkpoint.

According to police officials, the police recovered 149 cartons of non-customs-paid cigarettes after stopping and searching a suspect identified as Ghulam Fareed during routine checking operations.

The seized goods were taken into custody and legal proceedings were initiated against the suspect , they said said, adding that further investigations were underway.

The sources said that the sale, transportation and distribution of non-duty-paid cigarettes caused financial losses to the national exchequer and undermine tax enforcement efforts.

The police said operations against illegal businesses, smuggling networks and tax evasion would continue without discrimination to ensure the rule of law and curb illicit trade in the district.
