A police constable was martyred and another injured in an alleged encounter with armed suspects near the Manghopir canal in district West of the city, police said on Thursday

KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Apr, 2026) A police constable was martyred and another injured in an alleged encounter with armed suspects near the Manghopir canal in district West of the city, police said on Thursday.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), West Tariq Ilahi Mastoi said 41-year-old Khadim Ali Shah succumbed to bullet injuries, while 28-year-old Muhammad Tufail Khan sustained gunshot wounds during the exchange of fire. The assailants managed to flee the scene while firing, he added.

The deceased and the injured were shifted to hospital, where the wounded officer is receiving treatment. Following the incident, police cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to apprehend the suspects, while legal formalities were being completed.

Meanwhile, the Sindh Home Minister, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh and Additional IGP Karachi took notice of the incident and directed authorities to ensure the best possible medical care for the injured officer and to expedite efforts for the arrest of those involved.

Later, SSP Tariq Mastoi visited a private hospital to inquire after the injured officer and told media that his statement had been recorded. He said police had attempted to stop the suspects on suspicion, upon which they opened fire with a 30-bore pistol. He added that further evidence was being collected from the crime scene to aid the investigation.
