CHICHAWATNI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Apr, 2026) Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sahiwal, Capt. (R) Samiullah Farooq on Wednesday said that the complete eradication of polio remains the top priority of the Punjab government, and that most targets in the recent anti-polio campaign were largely achieved due to coordinated efforts of relevant departments and the tireless work of field teams.
He expressed these views while chairing a post-polio campaign review meeting.
The officials briefed the meeting that during the April 2026 National Immunization Campaign, a target of 390,097 children was set in Sahiwal district, out of which 384,429 children were administered polio drops, achieving an overall coverage of 98.
55 percent, while access reached 99.61 percent across the district.
In Chichawatni tehsil, 98.85 percent of 157,844 children were vaccinated, while in Sahiwal tehsil, 98.34 percent of 232,253 children received the vaccine.
During the campaign, 60.39 percent of initially missed children were later covered, while an additional 34.65 percent were reached through catch-up activities.
The deputy commissioner directed officials to enhance parental awareness, eliminate refusal cases, and further improve field monitoring to achieve 100 percent results in upcoming campaigns.
