Authorities intensify anti-dengue drive; hotspot areas prioritised for dengue control

RAWALPINDI:

Following recent heavy rainfall, medical experts have identified the subsequent intense sunshine as ideal conditions for the breeding of dengue mosquitoes and larvae, prompting authorities to accelerate the anti-dengue campaign.

Around 900 female workers and 110 male workers have been recruited on daily wages and deployed to dengue hotspot union councils, while the hiring of a further 1,000 female workers is underway.

Under the anti-dengue drive, strict enforcement measures have been initiated, including the registration of cases and sealing of properties, with the Dengue Prevention Act enforced immediately and set to remain in effect until November 15.

Health teams from the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad have finalised preparations for joint operations in border areas. These teams will focus on key zones from Faizabad to Tarnol, including both sides of the Islamabad Expressway.

In line with requirements, supplies of insecticide sprays and equipment have arrived in Rawalpindi from the Director General Health Office in Lahore.

Responsibilities have been allocated across all government departments, each tasked with implementing anti-dengue measures within their respective sectors and submitting daily reports to the Deputy Commissioner's Office.

The Education Department will oversee schools, Civil Defence will inspect multi-storey buildings and basements of under-construction sites, the Environment Department will monitor tyre shops and open areas and PHA will cover parks and green belts, municipal corporations will inspect graveyards and vacant plots.
