The Power Division on Tuesday said that electricity supply situation in the country has improved since April 17, with a significant reduction in load management during peak hours
ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Apr, 2026) The Power Division on Tuesday said that electricity supply situation in the country has improved since April 17, with a significant reduction in load management during peak hours.
According to a spokesperson, increased water releases from dams in line with provincial demand have enabled additional electricity generation of around 5,000 megawatts during night peak hours.
The spokesperson said that improved grid stability, supported by an additional 400 megawatts of electricity from the southern region, has also helped enhance power supply in central parts of the country.
He said that no load management was carried out during night peak hours on April 17, 18 and 19, reflecting improved supply conditions.
On April 20, most power distribution companies implemented only one hour of load management during night hours, while two hours of load management was recorded in Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO) and Sukkur Electric Power Company (SEPCO).
The spokesperson further said that power plants with a cumulative capacity of 5,500 megawatts operating on liquefied natural gas (LNG) are currently not generating electricity due to non-availability of fuel. However, these plants would resume generation as soon as LNG supply becomes available.
He clarified that load management based on electricity theft and system losses would continue as part of the policy, independent of peak-hour load management.
The spokesperson added that such loss-based load management would remain in place even after LNG supply is restored, as it is aimed at ensuring discipline and efficiency in the power distribution system.
