MIRPUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th Jun, 2026) The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Azad Jammu and Kashmir chapter on Sunday unveiled its first list of 35 candidates for the upcoming July 27, 2026, elections to the 53-member Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, marking a significant step in the party's election campaign, the local correspondent of APP reported this from Mirpur on Sunday citing sources of party.
According to a list released by the party, candidates have been nominated for Constituencies across Mirpur, Bhimber, Kotli, Bagh, Poonch, Neelum, Muzaffarabad, as well as Jammu and Kashmir refugee constituencies based in different parts of Pakistan. Party sources said the remaining eight candidates would be announced in the second phase in the coming days.
Among the prominent nominees are Afsar Shahid (LA-1 Mirpur-I), Qasim Majeed (LA-2 Mirpur-II, Chakswari), Yasar Sultan (LA-3 Mirpur City), Chaudhry Sohaib Arshad (LA-4 Khari Sharif), Chaudhry Pervez Ashraf (LA-5 Bhimber-I, Barnala), and senior PPP leader Chaudhry Yasin, who has been fielded from both LA-10 Kotli-III and LA-12 Kotli-V (Charhoi).
<?php /*?> <?php */?>The party also announced candidates for the Jammu and Valley refugee constituencies, including retired Colonel Qadeer Chauhan, Chaudhry Asif Gujjar, Chaudhry Ahsan Ismail Gujjar, Shaheen Kausar Dar, Raja Shahid Iqbal Advocate, Chaudhry Fakhar Zaman, Ameer Abdul Ghaffar Lone, Ghulam Abbas Mir, Javed Butt, Muhammad Rashid islam Butt and Abdul Majid Khan.
PPP AJK has also entered into an electoral alliance with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) in two constituencies and will not field its own candidates in those seats under the agreement. Party leaders said campaign preparations were in the final stages, while political observers believe the announcement of candidates is expected to further intensify electioneering across Azad Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the July 27 polls.
