PPP launches Phase II of free solar scheme for 275,000 households in Sindh

LARKANA, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Apr, 2026) The Phase-II project aimed at providing free solar systems to 275,000 underprivileged households across Sindh was inaugurated on Wednesday by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Sindh President Nisar Ahmed Khuhro.

The inauguration ceremony took place in Qambar Shahdadkot, where Khuhro formally launched the Solar Home-Based Phase-II initiative.

Addressing the gathering, Khuhro said the vision to illuminate every home through solar energy was conceived by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. He added that under Phase II of the project, 275,000 households across Sindh would receive solar panels.

Providing district-level details, Khuhro stated that 10,000 solar kits would be distributed in Qambar Shahdadkot. He noted that verification of 247 households without access to electricity had already been completed, and out of these, 100 families were handed free solar kits during the ceremony.

Highlighting ongoing rehabilitation efforts, Khuhro said that 2.1 million flood-affected individuals across Sindh were being provided with newly constructed homes.

In Qambar Shahdadkot alone, funds have been allocated through the Sindh Rural Support Organization (SRSO) to build houses for 112,000 people.

He further said that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had invited the United Nations Secretary-General to visit Sindh to witness the widespread destruction caused by recent floods.

Commenting on the current economic situation, Khuhro said that rising petrol prices amid a war-like global scenario, along with the energy crisis and inflation, had increased the burden on the poor.

He emphasized that the Sindh government, under Bilawal’s vision, was providing free solar kits to help low-income families reduce their electricity expenses.

Khuhro also urged PPP union and town chairpersons to allocate part of their monthly funds to support the provision of free solar panels to deserving households in their respective areas.

The ceremony was attended by PPP District Qambar Shahdadkot President and District Council Chairman Qamaruddin Gopang, Deputy Commissioner Imdad Abro, SRSO District Manager Qalandar Bakhsh Korai, and other party leaders.
