Pre-monsoon flood preparedness reviewed

BAHAWALPUR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Apr, 2026) Deputy Commissioner Bahawalpur Syed Hassan Raza chaired an important meeting of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) at the DC Office committee room to review pre-flood arrangements for the monsoon season 2026.

The meeting focused on assessing preparedness to deal with potential flood situations, including preemptive planning, institutional readiness, and interdepartmental coordination. Assistant Commissioner City Khalil Ahmed, Assistant Commissioner Saddar Hamza Ihtesham, District Emergency Officer Baqir Hussain, and officials from relevant departments attended the meeting. During the session, departments briefed the participants on available resources, machinery, rescue teams, establishment of control rooms, and identification of vulnerable and sensitive locations to effectively respond to emergencies during the monsoon.

Addressing the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner directed all departments to strengthen coordination and ensure timely preventive measures so that any emergency situation can be handled promptly and effectively.

He emphasized continuous monitoring of rivers, canals, and seasonal streams and instructed that drainage arrangements in low-lying areas be completed well in advance. He further directed that the district-level control room remain fully operational and that an effective communication system be established to provide timely information and alerts to the public.

Syed Hassan Raza made it clear that the protection of lives and property of citizens is the top priority of the district administration, and no negligence will be tolerated in this regard. It was decided in the meeting that all relevant departments will remain on high alert during the monsoon season and will implement a comprehensive and coordinated strategy to tackle any potential emergency situation.
