Managing your monthly budget just got a lot easier if you live in Lahore. The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) is officially moving toward a prepaid power meter system. This change allows you to pay for your electricity in advance, much like recharging your mobile phone balance.

As per the details shared by LESCO Chief Engineer Muhammad Ramzan Butt, the shift is practical. No more waiting for a surprise bill at the end of the month. Instead, you load credit into your meter. Once the balance runs out, the supply stops. It puts the remote in your hand—you decide when to save and when to spend.

Key Features of the LESCO Prepaid Electric Meter in Pakistan

The pilot project is already active with two units installed in Allama Iqbal Town. Here is how it changes the game for you:

  • Budget Control: You can choose to use your balance over six days or stretch it for a month.
  • Peak Hour Management: Users can limit consumption during expensive peak hours to save credit.
  • No More Overbilling: Since the meter works on available credit, the common “overbilling” complaints should disappear.
  • Outsourced Support: LESCO is hiring external services to ensure you get technical help without the usual delays.

2026 Update: Smart AMI Rollout

Beyond the prepaid trial, LESCO has accelerated the installation of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) smart meters as of April 2026. These new single-phase AMI units are priced at Rs11,665, while the full installation package (including 10 meters of cable) costs approximately Rs17,700. These meters provide real-time data, helping the company reduce line losses and providing you with 100% accurate consumption tracking.

Note: If you are currently facing billing issues, you can still check your status via the LESCO online bill portal using your 14-digit reference number while the prepaid rollout expands.
