ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Jun, 2026) President Asif Ali Zardari has extended heartfelt congratulations to the nation and the Muslim world on the commencement of the Islamic New Year 1448 AH, urging citizens to draw inspiration from the lessons of Hijrat-e-Madina and the sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) to strengthen national unity and social harmony.

In his message marking the beginning of the new Hijri year, the president said that the start of the Islamic Calendar serves as a reminder of the historic migration of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his devoted companions from Makkah to Madina. He described the event as a timeless example of sacrifice, patience, perseverance, brotherhood, selflessness and complete trust in Allah.

The president said that Hijrat-e-Madina teaches that nations achieve progress not merely through material resources but through high moral values, justice, honesty, unity and collective purpose. He noted that the state established in Madina set enduring standards of tolerance, rule of law, human equality, mutual respect and public welfare that continue to guide humanity today.

The president urged Pakistanis to promote tolerance, love, brotherhood and mutual respect in both individual and collective spheres of life. He emphasized the need to reject sectarianism, extremism, hatred and prejudice while contributing towards making Pakistan a peaceful, stable and prosperous country.

Referring to the sacred month of Muharram, the president said it also reminds Muslims of the immense sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and the universal lessons of Karbala.

Quoting a saying of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), he noted that believers are like one body; when one part suffers, the entire body shares in the pain. He stressed the importance of fostering compassion, brotherhood, sympathy, sacrifice and cooperation at both individual and societal levels.

The president further underlined the need to rise above differences, prejudices and personal interests and give priority to the national interest.
