LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Jun, 2026) The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA), under the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for a “Safe Punjab,” had strengthened Muharram security arrangements by expanding the use of advanced digital technologies across the province.

According to a PSCA spokesperson, geo-tagging of more than 4,500 Imambargahs across Punjab had been completed, while a comprehensive digital database had also been developed to support security management during Muharram.

The spokesperson said that, for the first time in the country's history, a QR Panic Button System was being introduced at Imambargahs. Under the initiative, QR Panic Buttons were being installed at more than 4,500 Imambargahs across Punjab to ensure immediate communication, timely assistance and an effective police response in emergency situations.

Upon scanning the QR code, complete information regarding the location, security category and administration of the Imambargah becomes instantly available. The system also provides direct access to Emergency-15 calls, live chat and video call facilities, enabling Imambargah administrations to establish immediate contact with the Safe City Control Room.

The spokesperson said that information received through the system would facilitate the prompt deployment of police teams and ensure swift action in the event of any emergency.

He added that advanced digital security systems, geo-mapping, smart surveillance and an integrated command-and-control infrastructure would further reduce emergency response times. Smart Safe City Control Rooms across Punjab had already started Muharram security operations, while round-the-clock digital monitoring of majalis, processions and sensitive locations was being carried out.

Inspector General of Police Punjab Abdul Karim said that maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of mourners during Muharram remained the top priority of Punjab Police. He said all available resources were being utilised to provide a safe and secure environment for mourners through the use of modern technology.

The IGP said the QR Panic Button System would play a vital role in ensuring rapid response and effective communication during emergencies.

Managing Director PSCA Ahsan Younas said the authority was strengthening Muharram security arrangements through the effective use of modern technology, geo-mapping and digital security solutions. He said the QR Panic Button System would facilitate immediate communication and timely assistance during emergencies, while advanced surveillance and smart monitoring technologies would help ensure the safety and security of mourners across Punjab.
