PU, PPPS ink agreement to strengthen gender-sensitive criminal justice system

Punjab University Department of Gender Studies and the Punjab Probation and Parole Service (PPPS), Home Department, on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote research, training and community engagement in the field of gender and criminal justice system

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Apr, 2026) Punjab University Department of Gender Studies and the Punjab Probation and Parole Service (PPPS), Home Department, on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote research, training and community engagement in the field of gender and criminal justice system.

The MoU was signed at the office of PPPS by Chairperson Department of Gender Studies, Punjab University, Prof. Dr. Rubina Zakar and Director General PPPS Muhammad Shahid Iqbal. Focal persons from both sides, including Convenor External Linkages Department of Gender Studies Dr. Ambreen Salahuddin and Assistant Director PPPS Ms. Aisha Allah Ditta, were also present on the occasion.

The agreement establishes a collaborative framework focusing on gender-sensitive rehabilitation, capacity building of probation and parole staff, student internships and fieldwork opportunities, as well as joint initiatives addressing reintegration challenges faced by offenders, particularly women and other marginalized groups.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Rubina Zakar appreciated the efforts of PPPS under the leadership of Muhammad Shahid Iqbal, while the DG PPPS highlighted the importance of continued collaboration and constructive academic input from the Department of Gender Studies.

The partnership is aimed at integrating academic expertise with practical rehabilitation efforts to promote a more inclusive, equitable and gender-responsive approach within Punjab’s probation and parole system.

The ceremony was also attended by Nazia Abdul Ghaffar, Nudrat Kamal and other team members of PPPS, reflecting the department’s commitment to strengthening institutional linkages.
