DERA ISMAIL KHAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th Apr, 2026) The district health department South Waziristan Lower has launched a public awareness campaign to prevent the spread of leishmaniasis, an infectious disease in the area.

In this regard, the health officials have urged residents to strictly follow precautionary measures to protect themselves from the disease.

They say that leishmaniasis is a dangerous illness transmitted through the bite of a sand fly.

To reduce the risk of infection, citizens have been advised to use mosquito nets at night, apply insect repellent creams or sprays, and wear full-sleeved clothing.

In addition, people have been encouraged to keep their homes and surroundings clean and dry, seal cracks in walls, and avoid sleeping in open areas.

It further says that anyone who develops a persistent skin sore or lesion that does not heal should immediately seek medical attention at the nearest health facility, as delaying treatment can worsen the condition.
