The Punjab government has allocated Rs60 billion for various development projects in the agriculture sector under the fiscal year 2026-27 budget, with a strong focus on modernization, climate resilience, and farmer support initiatives

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Jun, 2026) The Punjab government has allocated Rs60 billion for various development projects in the agriculture sector under the fiscal year 2026-27 budget, with a strong focus on modernization, climate resilience, and farmer support initiatives.

According to the Annual Development Program, Rs27.584 billion has been earmarked for ongoing agriculture schemes, while Rs32.415 billion has been proposed for new development projects aimed at boosting productivity and improving farm infrastructure across the province.

A significant allocation of Rs2.472 billion has been proposed for the Chief Minister Punjab Kissan Card initiative, designed to facilitate farmers in accessing subsidies and financial support through a streamlined digital system.

For water management and conservation, Rs3.318 billion has been allocated for the establishment of water reservoirs, water conservation measures, and improving water use efficiency in agricultural fields. Officials said the initiative is aimed at addressing water scarcity and enhancing sustainable irrigation practices.

In addition, Rs3.4 billion has been proposed for the Punjab Climate Resilient and Low Carbon Agriculture Mechanization Project, which is expected to promote modern farming techniques and reduce environmental impact in the agriculture sector.

The budget also includes Rs6.261 billion for the Chief Minister’s Punjab Green Tractor Program (low power) and Rs9.9 billion for the Green Tractor Program (high power), both aimed at providing subsidized mechanization support to farmers to improve agricultural output.

Furthermore, Rs6.75 billion has been allocated for the second phase of the Kissan Card program, strengthening financial inclusion and support mechanisms for the farming community.

An amount of Rs900 million has been earmarked for the transformation of agriculture in the Thal region, focusing on improving productivity in underdeveloped agricultural areas.

For groundwater management, Rs801 million has been allocated for pilot testing of borehole-based groundwater recharging systems in agricultural fields, aimed at improving water sustainability and addressing declining water tables.

The budget allocations reflect the provincial government’s priority to modernize agriculture, support farmers through targeted interventions, and enhance climate resilience in the sector across.
