MULTAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 6th May, 2026) The Punjab government on Wednesday approved development schemes worth Rs.35 billion to modernize the livestock sector and enhance farmers’ income.
Senior Veterinary Officer(Ahmed Pur East) Dr.Jamshaid Akhtar said the initiative aims to promote value addition, enabling farmers to produce higher-profit dairy and meat products with full technical support.
He added that subsidized loans at 3–5% interest, in collaboration with the Bank of Punjab will be provided for modern dairy and meat processing machinery as per vision of CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
The government also plans to upgrade the meat sector through modern slaughterhouses, boneless meat production, grading, and processing systems to boost exports,he added.
Special policies were being introduced to address challenges faced by meat exporters and beef farmers, strengthening the overall value chain.
He emphasized adopting international standards and advanced technology to improve productivity and competitiveness in global markets.Farmers, a seminar, have also welcomed the initiative, calling it a major step toward sectoral growth and economic development,claimed Dr.Jamshaid.
