Punjab Cabinet Committee reviews Muharram security arrangements

SARGODHA, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 8th Jun, 2026) The Punjab Cabinet Committee on Law and Order on Monday reviewed security and administrative arrangements for Muharram-ul-Haram during a visit to Sargodha,directing authorities to ensure strict implementation of security measures across the division.

The meeting was chaired by Provincial Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique and co-chaired by Provincial Minister Bilal Yasin. Provincial ministers Malik Sohaib Ahmad Bharth and Bilal Akbar Khan, along with senior civil and police officials also attended the session.

Commissioner Hafiz Shaukat Ali and Regional Police Officer Dr. Shahzad Asif briefed the committee on the comprehensive security plan finalized for the division.

Officials informed the meeting that 5,457 majalis and 1,221 processions would be held across the division during Muharram.

To support local law enforcement,six companies of the Pakistan Army and 10 companies of the Pakistan Rangers will be deployed.

The committee was further informed that district-entry bans had been imposed on 188 firebrand speakers, while gagging orders had been issued for 102 individuals to maintain sectarian harmony and prevent the spread of hate speech.

Addressing participants, Khawaja Salman Rafique said the cabinet committee was visiting every division of the province on the directions of the Chief Minister to ensure foolproof arrangements for Muharram.

He said the administration,police,health department,civil defense and rescue services were fully prepared while peace committees were actively promoting interfaith harmony.

Bilal Yasin directed law-enforcement agencies to strengthen security at inter-provincial and inter-district borders and ensure that all traditional processions adhered to established standard operating procedures.

He also instructed the administration to take weather conditions into account while making arrangements for mourners.

Malik Sohaib Ahmad Bharth said the overall situation would be monitored through the Home Department's central control room and appreciated public cooperation in organizing sabeels and langars.

Bilal Akbar Khan stressed strict enforcement of Section-144, particularly the ban on drone cameras during the holy month.

The meeting was also attended by Secretary Auqaf Dr. Ehsan Bhutta,Additional IG CTD Waseem Sial,Additional IG Imran Arshad, DIG Sajjad Manj, and all deputy commissioners and district police officers of the Sargodha division.
