LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Apr, 2026) The Punjab government has announced large-scale measures to increase livestock and meat exports, under which the province will export one million animals.
In this regard, MoUs have been signed with 7 institutions, including a Chinese company. China's Global Meat Company will install a boiler unit in Punjab in collaboration with PAMCO, through which boiled meat will be prepared for export on a large scale.
According to the briefing, various meat companies have set a target of importing 300,000 cattle meat for exports, while a target of fattening cattle including 300,000 buffaloes and cows has also been set. Similarly, one lakh goats and sheep will also be raised for export.
It was further informed that state-of-the-art veterinary hospitals will be established in every tehsil of Punjab, while 4 mobile veterinary dispensaries will also function in each tehsil.
Important decisions were taken in a video link meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, in which the quota of free cattle for rural women was also doubled.
Minister for Livestock Ashiq Hussain Kirmani said in the briefing that mechanization is being introduced for the first time in the livestock sector, for which the government will provide a subsidy of up to 60 percent. Under this, machines like milk chiller, mixing machine, milk can cooler, weight scale and feed mixer will be provided.
The briefing further informed that 9,255 cattle have been given free of cost to widows and divorced women in 12 districts of South Punjab, while a plan has also been made to tag 2 million animals to meet the export target.
The meeting was informed that there have been no reports of Gul Ghotu and Lumpy Skin in cattle in Punjab since 2022, and no cases of these diseases have come to light even after the recent floods.
The Chief Minister said that important sectors like livestock were neglected in the past, while this sector can become an important source of economic self-reliance.
