LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd Apr, 2026) The Punjab government has made licenses mandatory for parrots kept in homes. Four types of local parrots are included in the licensing. The Wildlife Department has been given the authority to take action on violations.
The online licensing process for local parrots has been started in Punjab. The license fee for keeping amateur parrots is Rs 1,000, small breeders Rs 20,000, while the license fee for large breeders has been fixed at Rs 30,000.
Separate license categories are allocated for amateurs and breeders. The Wildlife Department has been given the authority to take action on violations in this regard.
A license has been made mandatory for four types of parrots kept in homes - the Raw, Songbird, Grey-headed and Purple-headed - while it will be mandatory for parrot owners to submit an affidavit. After the license, the parrots will be given unique color codes.
In addition, special conditions have been imposed for small and large cottage breeders. Breeders will have to keep complete records of breeding, small breeders will release 10 percent while large breeders will release 20 percent of the parrots.
