Punjab govt orders 46 suction machines,says minister LG

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th Apr, 2026) Punjab Minister for Local Government, Zeeshan Rafique on Tuesday said that 46 out of 55 suction machines have been ordered under Punjab Development Program.

He chaired a meeting at the Civil Secretariat to review progress on the Punjab Development Program (PDP), where the Project Director briefed participants on ongoing initiatives.

The minister said that under the “Maryam Nawaz’s Sohna Punjab” program,development work was underway in 51 cities under the supervision of the Local Government Department.

He highlighted that through transparent tendering,the department has so far saved Rs 28 billion across various schemes.

Zeeshan further stated that orders have been placed for 46 out of 55 suction machines for cities,while procurement of 55 jetting machines and 100 de-watering sets is also in progress. He added that the purchase of 77 desilting machines under the PDP was in its final stages,which will help address urban flooding issues.

He said that on the directions of Chief Minister(CM),Maryam Nawaz, a network of underground water storage tanks was being developed across cities.

These tanks to be constructed along roadsides will enable quick drainage of rainwater while also allowing stored water to be reused when needed.

The minister emphasized that an organized sewerage and drainage system will provide significant relief to citizens.

As part of the initiative, 61 disposal stations will be rehabilitated and 56 new ones constructed.

He also noted that under the PDP,comprehensive master planning has been carried out for urban needs up to 2050. Additionally,technology for lining pipes has been transferred to Pakistan and plants were being installed in various cities to support infrastructure development.
