LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Jun, 2026) Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique has said that special attention is being paid to promoting modern research in the medical institutions of Punjab to improve healthcare services and academic standards.

He expressed these views while chairing the 43rd Syndicate Meeting of Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU) on Wednesday.

During the meeting, the Health Minister ratified the decisions taken in the 42nd Syndicate meeting of the university. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal briefed the participants on the university’s contributions to the Green Pakistan Project and highlighted various academic and administrative achievements.

The syndicate members appreciated the services of Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal and commended his leadership during his tenure as Vice Chancellor. The meeting also praised the launch of the new MCh academic programme at Fatima Jinnah Medical University.

The Syndicate approved the appointment of Bilal Majeed as a member of the Finance and Planning Committee, while Prof. Shamsa Humayun, Prof. Munza Iqbal and Prof. Muniza Qayyum were appointed as members of the Academic Council.

Speaking on the occasion, Khawaja Salman Rafique welcomed the newly inducted syndicate members and paid tribute to Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal for his outstanding contributions to medical education and healthcare. He said the Vice Chancellor’s services for the university and the medical profession were unparalleled.

All syndicate members congratulated Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal on completing a successful tenure and achieving significant milestones during his leadership.

The meeting was attended by Member Punjab Assembly Kanwal Pervaiz Chaudhry, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal, Additional Secretary Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department Dr. Sidra Saleem, Additional Secretary Higher Education Zahida Azhar, Registrar Prof. Nadeem, Prof. Bilqis Shabbir, Medical Superintendent of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital Prof. Arif Iftikhar and other faculty members.

Finance, law and departmental officers also attended the meeting as syndicate members. Newly inducted members including Prof. Dr. Abdul Majeed Chaudhry, Prof. Dr. Noreen Akmal, Bilal Majeed, Waseem-ur-Rehman, Fatima Fazal and Dr. Tasmeen A. Ibne Raza were also present on the occasion.
