Punjab launches digital hospital payment system at PIC to ensure transparency

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd Apr, 2026) Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique on Thursday inaugurated a modern digital hospital payments system at the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC), marking a significant step towards transparency and efficiency in public healthcare.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that the initiative has been launched in line with the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif to ensure transparency in the financial affairs of teaching hospitals across the province.

He stated that the implementation of a modern digital payments system is a major innovation in hospital financial management, which will not only enhance transparency but also provide convenience to patients. Khawaja Salman Rafique appreciated the efforts of Secretary Health Azmat Mahmood for advancing the digitalization of financial matters in teaching hospitals.

The minister emphasized that digitalization is the need of the hour and the healthcare system is being developed on modern lines.

He added that reforms in the health sector are progressing rapidly under the leadership of the Chief Minister, with transparency in financial affairs being a top government priority.

He further said that the digital payments system will help minimize irregularities, ensure accurate record-keeping, and enable better monitoring of financial operations by hospital administration. He added that this model will be introduced in other government hospitals across Punjab in phases.

During his visit, Khawaja Salman Rafique inspected various counters of the digital system and reviewed its functioning and transparency measures.

Chairman Board of Management PIC Dr. Farqad Alamgir, Special Secretary Development Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Ahmed Kamal Maan, CEO PIC Professor Dr. Bilal Mohiuddin, Medical Superintendent Dr. Aamir Rafique Butt, Director PITB Nosheen Fayyaz, officials of the Bank of Punjab, and faculty members were also present on the occasion.
