Punjab on high alert as police tighten security at churches

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 3rd May, 2026) Security has been put on high alert across Punjab in view of Christian prayer program with authorities directing police to further tighten security arrangements,here on Sunday.

Inspector General (IG) Punjab has instructed all Regional Police Officers (RPOs), District Police Officers (DPOs) and senior officials to enhance security at churches and other sensitive locations, emphasizing that supervisory officers should personally review arrangements.

According to directives,additional police personnel will be deployed at sensitive churches, while snipers will also be positioned to ensure safety.

The Dolphin Squad, Police Response Unit (PRU) and Elite Force have been tasked with maintaining effective patrolling in and around places of worship.

The IG Punjab stressed that all deployed personnel must remain vigilant and keep a close watch on any suspicious activity. Authorities have also been ordered to continue search operations around churches,Christian settlements and other sensitive areas.

He further urged religious leaders,members of the Christian community and peace committees to play their role in promoting interfaith harmony to maintain peace and order across the province.
