LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th May, 2026) Punjab Police, under the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for a “Drug-Free Punjab”, have intensified operations against drug peddlers and smugglers across the province and arrested 17,167 accused during the current year.

According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, 17,171 cases were registered against drug dealers and smugglers during the ongoing crackdown launched on the directions of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Abdul Kareem.

The spokesperson said Punjab Police recovered 9,285 kilograms of charas, 1,002 kilograms of heroin, 505 kilograms of ice, 510 kilograms of opium and more than 245,000 litres of liquor from the possession of the accused.

In Lahore alone, police arrested 2,102 drug peddlers during the current year and registered 2,037 cases against them.

The spokesperson said Lahore Police recovered 723-kg charas, 74-kg heroin, 180-kg ice, 21 kilograms of opium and 12,146 litres of liquor during the operations.

IGP Punjab Abdul Kareem directed all field officers to bring all individuals involved in the drug supply chain to justice and ensure strict punishment under the law. He further directed intensifying operations against narcotics dealers operating in and around educational institutions, including colleges, universities and hostels.
