ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 1st May, 2026) Punjab' Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb on Friday said the Punjab government, under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, is establishing a state-of-the-art film city to revive the “declining” film industry and generate employment opportunities for millions of youth on global standards, with the project targeted for completion by 2029 and private sector involvement planned.
While speaking exclusively to a local media outlet, she highlighted that under the Chief Minister’s leadership, record funds have been allocated and significant progress has been made across multiple sectors, including education, health, tourism and sports.
She added that the government is now moving forward with plans to revive the “declining” film industry through the establishment of a modern Film City in Lahore, where all essential facilities will be provided under one roof, with dedicated land allocated for the project.
She further said that the private sector is also being invited to participate in this initiative, reaffirming that under the Chief Minister’s vision, it is a landmark project aimed at transforming the country’s entertainment landscape.
She emphasized that the initiative is expected to generate millions of employment opportunities for unemployed youth, marking a major step toward economic and creative revival.
While speaking about the completion time line, she expressed confidence that the project will be made fully functional by 2029, terming it a key milestone in the revival of the film sector under the Chief Minister’s vision.
She said that under the Chief Minister’s programmes, film workers are being included in scholarship schemes along with other welfare initiatives, aimed at providing financial and professional support to those associated with the industry.
She further described the initiative as a holistic programme, adding that it also includes loan schemes, modern technology-based facilities and structured training opportunities, along with production infrastructure and acting facilities to develop skilled talent and strengthen the film industry on contemporary lines.
Responding to a query on the selection of Lahore, she said the city is the nerve centre of Punjab and a vibrant hub of cultural diversity and creative expression.
She added that Lahore’s long-standing association with art, music and cinema makes it the most suitable location for the project.
She further stated that its rich cultural and historical identity provides an ideal environment to develop the film industry on modern and international lines.
