Punjab to launch E-bike rental service to boost green mobility

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 8th Jun, 2026) The Punjab government has decided to launch an electric bike rental service in a bid to introduce modern,affordable and ECO-friendly transport facilities for citizens of Lahore,here on Monday.

Under the initiative,10,000 electric bikes will be introduced in the first phase, while 300 docking and charging stations will be established across key areas of the city to facilitate easy pick-and-drop access for users.

Officials said the project will be implemented with support from the Punjab Housing Authority,which will provide suitable locations for docking and charging infrastructure.

The Transport Department,Safe City Lahore and other relevant institutions will also be part of the execution framework.

According to officials,citizens will be able to access e-bikes through a dedicated mobile application,making the service available for students, office workers and the general public at an affordable cost.

The initiative was expected to improve last-mile connectivity between residential neighborhoods,commercial centers and public transport hubs.

Authorities said the project aims to reduce traffic congestion,fuel consumption and air pollution in the provincial capital. They added that large-scale adoption of electric bikes could significantly cut carbon emissions and help mitigate the city’s smog problem.

A senior official from the Housing Department said the government was focusing on sustainable and innovative urban transport solutions to address environmental challenges while improving mobility options for citizens.
