Punjab to provide international-level healthcare in new medical institutes: Salman Rafique

Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique on Thursday said that patients would be provided international-standard medical facilities at three newly constructed institutes in Punjab, adding that efforts were underway to recruit the best human resource for the new healthcare institutions in the province

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st May, 2026) Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique on Thursday said that patients would be provided international-standard medical facilities at three newly constructed institutes in Punjab, adding that efforts were underway to recruit the best human resource for the new healthcare institutions in the province.

He was presiding over a meeting at the Department of Specialized Healthcare and Medical education regarding the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research Lahore, Jinnah Institute of Cardiology Lahore and Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cardiology Sargodha.

Speaking on the occasion, Khawaja Salman Rafique said that administrative and HR matters for all three institutes were being completed on a priority basis. He expressed hope that the institutions would soon start providing quality healthcare services to patients.

Advisor to the Punjab Health Minister Major General (retd) Dr. Azhar Mahmood Kiani said that the Punjab government was establishing international-level cardiac institutes for the treatment of heart patients.

Chairman board and former Chief Secretary Punjab Captain (retd) Zahid Saeed said that efforts were being made to make the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research operational at the earliest.

Secretary Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Azmat Mahmood said the department was making all-out efforts to activate the three institutes on time, adding that thousands of patients would benefit from these facilities.

The meeting was attended through video link by Health Economist Dr. Muhammad Adnan Khan, Dean Jinnah Institute of Cardiology Lahore Professor Dr. Hasnat Ahmed Khan, Dean Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cardiology Sargodha Major General (retd) Syed Khurram Shahzad, Hospital Director Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cardiology Sargodha Brigadier (retd) Dr. Muhammad Asif Chhatta, Principal Sargodha Medical College Professor Muhammad Waris Farooqa and Pharmacist DHQ Teaching Hospital Sargodha Sanaullah.

Chairman Board and former Chief Secretary Punjab Captain (retd) Zahid Saeed, Chairman Chief Minister Punjab Advisory Committee on Cardiology Dr. Farqad Alamgir, Vice Chancellor King Edward Medical University Professor Mahmood Ayaz, Additional Secretary Technical Dr. Hafiz Muhammad Waseem, Chief Pharmacist PIC Lahore Nadia Qamar and other officers also attended the meeting.
