LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Jun, 2026) Punjab Finance Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman on Monday presented a Rs 5.903 trillion budget for fiscal year 2026-27 in the Punjab Assembly, emphasizing education, healthcare, economic transformation, social protection and governance reforms while maintaining fiscal discipline.
The minister said the budget outlay of Rs 5.903 trillion is around 10.7 percent higher than the outgoing year's budget and includes a Annual Development Programme (ADP) of Rs 752 billion to accelerate development activities across the province.
The government has projected provincial own-source revenues of over Rs 1.2 trillion, along with Rs 4.39 trillion from its share of Federal tax pool (FBR revenues).while Punjab expects to generate Rs 525 billion through the Punjab Revenue Authority and Rs 124 billion from the Excise and Taxation Department, with an estimated surplus of about Rs 910 billion
From this amount, Rs 546 billion will be given to the federal government as a grant under national strategic requirements,
The budget allocates Rs 750 billion for education and Rs 500 billion for health, making them the largest spending sectors.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>Major education initiatives include the CM Punjab Laptop Programme , Honhaar Scholarship Programme and school Meal Programme, along with funding for new classrooms, missing facilities, autism schools and IT laboratories.
In the health sector, substantial allocations have been made for the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research, expansion of healthcare facilities and improvement of medical services throughout Punjab.
The budget also focuses on economic growth through the Punjab Innovation for Value, Opportunity and Transformation (PIVOT) initiative, promotion of investment, industrial development and job creation.
Other key areas include social welfare programmes, digital governance reforms, climate resilience projects, infrastructure development and youth empowerment initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable and inclusive growth.
