Railways must be modernized for national progress, says Railway Minister

SUKKUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Apr, 2026) Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi said the business community was the backbone of the national economy and stressed that railways must be strengthened and modernized for the country’s development.

He was addressing members of the Sukkur Chamber of Commerce and Industry during his visit to the city on Monday.

The federal minister also visited the Sukkur Chamber of Commerce and Industries (SCCI).

Chamber Senior Vice President Amit Kumar, Vice President Khurshid Alam, and other office-bearers received him.

Pakistan Railways Chairman Syed Mazhar Ali Shah, DS Railways Sukkur Farman Ghani, Hafeezullah, and other officials were also present.

On the occasion, traders raised issues related to the Sukkur Express operating between Sukkur and Karachi.

They also demanded a quota of seats for Sukkur in different trains.

Addressing the chamber, the Federal Minister said that the business community was the backbone of the country’s economy. “We have set railways and Pakistan on the path to progress together with the business community,” he said.

He said Rohri Railway Station would be transformed into an international-standard station within six months, adding that, at the demand of Sukkur’s citizens, the Sukkur Express had been upgraded into a modern train with new coaches, and all related issues would be resolved.

He added that railway properties and plots in Sukkur would be outsourced, and the ministry would move forward in consultation with the Sukkur Chamber in this regard.
