LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Apr, 2026) Railways Police, during a nationwide anti-encroachment campaign, retrieved over 16 acres of railway land worth Rs485 million in the first half of April.
According to the PR Police Spokesperson on Thursday, the campaign was launched on the directions of Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi and under the supervision of Inspector General Railways Police Muhammad Wisal Fakhar Sultan, according to performance data released on Wednesday.
From April 1 to April 15, 2026, Railways Police conducted 27 anti-encroachment operations across the country, successfully retrieving valuable commercial, agricultural and residential land from illegal occupants.
During the same period, 83 shops were sealed for various violations. Out of these, 32 shops were sealed in Peshawar, 16 in Lahore, and 35 in Sukkur.
The operations also resulted in the recovery of Rs1.7 million, which was deposited into the national exchequer.
According to divisional performance, Sukkur Division remained at the top by conducting 10 operations and retrieving 12 acres of land.
Other divisions also contributed to the drive, with Peshawar retrieving 0.250 acres, Rawalpindi 0.525 acres, Lahore 1.181 acres, and Mughalpura Workshops 0.008 acres.
Similarly, Multan Division retrieved 2.250 acres, Quetta 0.050 acres, and Karachi 0.260 acres of railway land during the campaign.
A large contingent of Railways Police, along with railway staff, participated in the operations to ensure their success.
Speaking on the occasion, IG Railways Police Muhammad Wisal Fakhar Sultan said that illegal occupation of railway land would not be tolerated under any circumstances. He termed railway land a national asset and vowed to protect it at all costs.
He further said that the overall performance showed that all divisions are taking effective measures to safeguard railway land, adding that the ongoing efforts, in coordination with the railway administration, would be further accelerated in the coming days.
