ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Apr, 2026) The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain-wind/thunderstorms, accompanied by isolated heavy falls and hailstorms, in the upper parts of the country from April 16 to 19 under the influence of a westerly wave expected to enter northwestern regions on April 16.
According to the Met Office, the weather system is likely to persist over upper parts with intermittent activity during the period.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain-windstorms/thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls and hailstorms, along with snowfall over mountains, are expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Shangla, Buner, Kohistan, Malakand, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Balakot, Haripur, Mardan, Nowshera, Peshawar, Bajaur, Mohmand, Swabi, Charsadda, Kohat, Kurram, Khyber and Hangu from the evening of April 16 to April 19 with occasional gaps.
Light rain and thunderstorms are also likely at isolated places in Orakzai, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Tank, Dera Ismail Khan and Waziristan on April 17 and 18.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, rain-wind/thunderstorms with moderate to isolated heavy falls and snowfall over mountains are expected in Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche and Shigar from April 16 to 19.
In Kashmir, rain-windstorms/thunderstorms with isolated hailstorms are likely in Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber and Mirpur from April 17 to 19, with moderate to isolated heavy falls expected on April 18 and 19.
In Balochistan, rain-windstorms/thunderstorms are expected in Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Noshki, Sherani, Musakhel, Loralai, Harnai, Zhob and Barkhan on April 17 and 18.
In Punjab and Islamabad, rain-windstorms/thunderstorms with isolated hailstorms are expected in Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Khushab, Sargodha, Mianwali, Faisalabad, Jhang, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot and Narowal from April 16 to 18. Windstorms and thunderstorms are also likely in Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Layyah, Bhakkar, Khushab, Noorpur Thal, Multan and Khanewal during the same period.
In Sindh, windstorms and dust-raising winds are expected in upper parts from April 16 to 18.
The PMD warned that landslides may occur in vulnerable areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir from April 17 to 19, while windstorms, hailstorms and lightning may damage weak structures, including electric poles, billboards and solar panels.
The farmers have been advised to take precautionary measures to protect standing crops, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and upper Punjab, as hailstorms and strong winds may cause damage.
Tourists and travelers have been urged to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during the forecast period. Flash flooding is also expected in vulnerable areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir, particularly in Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram and Chitral, as well as Neelum Valley.
The Met Office has advised all concerned authorities to remain vigilant and take necessary measures to prevent any untoward situation during the forecast period.
