Rains in KP claim 17 lives, injure dozens

PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th Mar, 2026) At least 17 people, including children and women have lost their lives in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to recent heavy rains that caused roofs and walls of houses to collapse.

According to initial reports received on My, 56 people have also been injured.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) released a preliminary report covering damages caused by rainfall since March 25. The spokesperson stated that among the deceased are 14 children, one man and two women. The injured include 25 men, 5 women and 26 children.

The report further revealed that at least 11 houses have been partially damaged due to the ongoing rains.

The affected districts include Bannu, Abbottabad, Kohat, Upper Dir, Bajaur, Battagram and North Waziristan, where multiple incidents of structural collapse have been reported.

Rescue and relief operations are currently underway.

Authorities including PDMA, Rescue 1122, district administrations and relevant departments are coordinating efforts to assist affected families. Instructions have been issued to ensure immediate provision of relief goods to victims.

PDMA has directed the district administration of Bannu, one of the worst-affected areas to promptly provide compensation and support to the families of the deceased.

Rainfall continues intermittently across various parts of the province and is expected to persist until Tuesday.

The Director General PDMA has urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel, refrain from visiting vulnerable tourist locations and strictly follow official advisories and alerts.

The PDMA Emergency Operations Center remains fully functional. Citizens are advised to report any emergency or seek information regarding weather conditions by calling the toll-free helpline 1700.
