Rana Sikandar, Salma Butt appreciate arrangements for Ashura procession

KHANEWAL, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Jun, 2026) Punjab Minister for education Rana Sikandar Hayat and Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Salma Butt visited the central Ashura procession at Lahore Mor on Youm-e-Ashura to review security, public facilities and overall administrative arrangements.

Deputy Commissioner Maliha Rashid and DPO Muhammad Abid briefed the visiting dignitaries on measures taken to maintain law and order and facilitate mourners. They also inspected the district control room at the Deputy Commissioner's Office, where they reviewed the monitoring system and emergency response arrangements.

The minister and the special assistant interacted with mourners to seek feedback on security and facilities provided along the procession route.

Rana Sikandar Hayat appreciated the performance of the Suthra Punjab sanitation workers and said the district had ensured exemplary arrangements in line with the directions of Punjab Chief Minister. He said mobile washrooms, Clinic on Wheels services and facilitation camps had been established, while a comprehensive emergency response plan was in place to deal with any untoward situation.

Salma Butt said the Chief Minister was personally monitoring Muharram arrangements on a daily basis, while provincial ministers remained in the field to supervise security and administrative measures. She added that special arrangements had been made for women mourners, including mobile washrooms, mobile water distribution points and mist spray machines. She also said the Punjab Food Authority was inspecting food and beverages being distributed at processions and religious gatherings.

The deputy commissioner informed the delegation that facilitation camps, drinking water points and medical aid centres had been established along procession routes, while comprehensive arrangements had been made for 82 processions and 58 majalis across the district. Meanwhile, Ashura processions continued peacefully towards their destinations under strict security.
