Rawalpindi administration prepares for monsoon contingencies

RAWALPINDI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Jul, 2026) The district administration has finalized all precautionary and emergency arrangements across Rawalpindi to effectively tackle potential flash floods and heavy downpours during the ongoing monsoon season.

Reviewing operational preparedness in a District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) meeting on Friday, Deputy Commissioner Captain (Retd) Nadeem Nasir instructed allied departments to remain on high alert, ensuring field availability of heavy machinery, rescue gear, and emergency personnel for rapid response.

During the meeting, Rescue 1122 and other relevant departments presented a comprehensive briefing on the Monsoon Emergency Response Plan, detailing the inventory of available machinery, manpower, rescue equipment, boats, dewatering sets, and overall field readiness to handle potential flash flooding or urban inundation.

The deputy commissioner directed the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) to maintain smooth drainage along main nullahs and sewerage lines, while the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) was tasked with executing uninterrupted sanitation drives during rain spells.

Health authorities were directed to guarantee continous medicine supplies and standby ambulances. Rescue 1122 and Civil Defense were instructed to keep rescue boats, dewatering sets, and specialized staff ready for immediate deployment.

Instructions were also issued to all ACs to continuously monitor low-lying pockets, vulnerable settlements and water channels within their jurisdictions.

The deputy commissioner appealed to citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy downpours, keep children away from swollen streams and rainwater pools, and immediately contact Rescue 1122 or district control rooms in case of emergency.
