Rawalpindi on high alert amid deployment of 8,000 Police for Ashura security plan

RAWALPINDI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Jun, 2026) Rawalpindi Police have finalized comprehensive security arrangements for Youm-e-Ashura, deploying more than 8,000 officers and personnel across the district to ensure peace and public safety during Muharram processions and gatherings.

According to a police spokesperson, over 5,500 police officers and personnel will be assigned specifically to the main Ashura procession, while more than 1,200 traffic police officials will manage traffic flow and road diversions. In addition, over 1,000 volunteers will assist law enforcement agencies in maintaining security.

The routes will be secured and the surrounding streets and alleys will be sealed to ensure controlled movement.

Snipers will be deployed on high-rise buildings along procession routes, while participants will undergo body searches before entry. Female police personnel will conduct searches of women participants.

For enhanced screening, metal detectors and walk-through gates will be installed at entry points.

Surveillance of the city is being conducted through more than 2,000 Safe City and other CCTV cameras, monitored continuously from the central control room.

Special checkpoints have been established at entry and exit points across the city.

The Rawalpindi Police have also introduced a dedicated mobile application enabling instant verification of identity cards through scanning, which is being used at entry points and bus terminals for screening purposes.

Coordination with other departments and district administration has been strengthened to ensure effective security and law and order. The government of Punjab’s code of conduct and SOPs will be strictly implemented.

Rawalpindi Police reiterated that all possible measures have been taken to ensure peace, security, and orderly conduct of religious processions on Youm-e-Ashura.
