RAWALPINDI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Mar, 2026) On the directives of Dr. Hassan Waqar Cheema, Rawalpindi district will actively observe the global environmental campaign Earth Hour 2026 on March 28, with citizens, institutions, and businesses encouraged to participate by switching off unnecessary lights for one hour.
In line with the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and guidelines issued by the Government of Punjab, all government and private offices, industrial units, commercial centers, and other institutions will turn off non-essential lighting from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM as part of the worldwide campaign.
The initiative aims to promote efficient energy consumption and raise public awareness about climate change and environmental protection. Authorities clarified that lighting required for security and emergency purposes will remain operational during the observance.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Hassan Waqar Cheema directed all relevant departments to ensure full participation in Earth Hour activities and to effectively use social media and communication platforms to mobilize public engagement. He emphasized that campaigns like Earth Hour play a vital role in conserving energy resources and fostering environmental responsibility.
He further appealed to industrialists, traders, and citizens to support the campaign by switching off unnecessary electricity for one hour and helping spread the message of environmental sustainability.
Earth Hour, observed globally each year, serves as a symbolic yet impactful step to highlight the importance of collective action against climate change and energy wastage.
