DERA GHAZI KHAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th Jun, 2026) Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Pakistan Chairman and Badshahi Mosque Lahore Khateeb Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabeer Azad on Thursday called for promoting inter-sect harmony, national unity and the message of peace to ensure a peaceful atmosphere during Muharram-ul-Haram.
He expressed these views while presiding over a divisional-level meeting of the Interfaith Harmony Committee held at Crystal Marquee, Dera Ghazi Khan, under the auspices of the Punjab Auqaf Department as part of the “Peace Caravan” initiative launched on the special directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
Commissioner Dera Ghazi Khan Division Ashfaq Ahmed Chaudhry, RPO Muhammad Azhar Akram, deputy commissioners, district police officers, senior officials, religious scholars, Mashaikh and members of peace committees from across the division attended the meeting.
Addressing the participants, Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad said unity among Muslims, national stability and the promotion of the “Paigham-e-Pakistan” narrative were the need of the hour. He urged religious scholars to use mosques and pulpits to spread the message of peace, tolerance, brotherhood and mutual respect and to play an active role in eliminating sectarianism.
He said, "Islam is a religion of peace that teaches love, harmony and coexistence," adding that Pakistan was achieved in the name of islam and the Kalima Tayyaba, and safeguarding the country's security and sovereignty was the collective responsibility of the entire nation.
The chairman said the entire nation and religious leadership stood behind the government's efforts aimed at strengthening national security and stability.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>He appreciated the Punjab government for launching peace caravans across the province to promote religious harmony ahead of Muharram.
Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad urged scholars and religious speakers to strictly adhere to the code of conduct during Muharram, avoid provocative speeches, respect the beliefs and sacred places of all schools of thought, follow approved procession routes and timings, and refrain from misuse of loudspeakers.
He emphasized the principle of “Do not abandon your own sect, and do not interfere with another's sect,” describing it as a key guideline for maintaining religious harmony and social cohesion.
Paying tribute to the armed forces, he said religious scholars across the country acknowledged and appreciated the sacrifices rendered by Pakistan's security forces for the defence of the homeland. He added that Pakistan's defence was in strong hands and every passing day was strengthening the country's security capabilities.
The participants assured the gathering that Dera Ghazi Khan Division had a strong tradition of peaceful coexistence among different schools of thought and expressed confidence that Muharram-ul-Haram would pass peacefully this year as well.
Special prayers were offered for Pakistan's peace, stability and prosperity, unity of the Muslim Ummah, protection of the Two Holy Mosques, and the people of Kashmir, Gaza and Palestine.
The meeting was attended by a large number of prominent religious scholars, Mashaikh, Auqaf officials and members of district peace committees from across the division.
