MIRPUR (AJK) , (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point news - 18th Jun, 2026) Mirpur AJK, Deputy Commissioner, Chaudhry Sajid Hussain and SSP Khurram Iqbal here on Thursday jointly chaired an extraordinary meeting of religious scholars and spiritual leaders from different schools of thoughts to discuss measures for maintaining law and order, promoting religious, sectarian harmony and brotherhood and strengthening inter-sect tolerance during holy month of Muharram. it was officially said.
"The meeting reviewed arrangements for Muharram processions and religious gatherings, including security, peace and order and other administrative matters. Religious scholars and community leaders presented various suggestions aimed at ensuring peace and fostering unity among different schools of thought during the sacred month, " District administration Spokesperson told APP here.
The participants emphasized strict adherence to the code of conduct and highlighted the need to promote the message of unity, brotherhood, and mutual respect, particularly among the youth.
The meeting also focused on ensuring the responsible use of social media. It was decided that no tolerance would be shown towards the dissemination of sectarian, hateful, or provocative content online. The authorities will take legal action against individuals found violating these guidelines. The religious leaders agreed to utilize social media platforms to promote peace, interfaith harmony, and social cohesion during the holy month.
In order to further strengthen communal harmony, the meeting approved the establishment of a District Inter-Sect Peace Committee comprising scholars and religious leaders from various schools of thought. The committee will remain in close coordination with the district administration and police throughout Muharram to help promote tolerance, brotherhood, and mutual respect, according to the sources.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>The meeting decided in principle that a special monitoring mechanism would be introduced to prevent the spread of sectarian and inflammatory content on social media. Representatives of all religious groups pledged to adopt a positive and responsible approach to maintaining peace and harmony.
Addressing the meeting, Deputy Commissioner, Chaudhry Sajid Hussain said that all available resources would be utilized to ensure the peaceful conduct of Muharram processions and religious gatherings. He urged religious scholars to promote the values of unity, patience, tolerance, and inter-sect harmony in their sermons and speeches.
He added that Pakistan is a shared home for all citizens and that everyone must play their role in safeguarding its dignity, security, and stability. Through religious tolerance, adherence to the law, and national unity, he said, Azad Jammu and Kashmir can further strengthen its image as a peaceful and progressive region.
The participants assured the administration of their full cooperation and reiterated their commitment to working collectively for peace, religious harmony, and brotherhood during Muharram-ul-Haram.
Prominent among those attended the meeting include city Mayor Chaudhry Usman Ali Khalid, DSP Muhammad Naseer Khan, District Mufti Abdul Ghaffar Salafi, founder of Tehreek Tahaffuz Namoos-e-Risalat Chaudhry Riaz Alam Advocate, Syed Zawar Hussain Sadiqi, Syed Abu Al-Hassan Qasmi Advocate, Professor Syed Tahir Hussain Naqvi, Tehsil Mufti Hamid Kamal, traders’ representatives Chaudhry Muhammad Naeem besides religious scholars, spiritual leaders, and senior district administration officials.
