The Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department has formally started issuing new registration numbers in Punjab, including Rawalpindi Division, to vehicles and motorcycles bearing registration numbers of other provinces of Pakistan.
A new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) has also been issued in this regard.
From Saturday, February 14, the Rawalpindi office began fresh re-registration of vehicles from other provinces along with biometric verification. Under the new permission, all types and engine capacities of vehicles and motorcycles registered in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Sindh, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir can now be registered in Punjab. Applicants will be required to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Excise Office of the concerned province. A vehicle clearance certificate, Police 15 report, complete vehicle file and an affidavit from the vehicle owner have been declared mandatory.
Registration fees will remain the same as applicable in Punjab. Biometric verification of vehicle owners applying for such numbers will be conducted. After registration, a new Punjab number of the concerned city will be allotted and the old number will be treated as cancelled. A letter regarding the new number will also be sent to the Excise Office of the relevant province.
