Robber held after exchange of fire with police, accomplice escapes

RAWALPINDI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Apr, 2026) Two armed robbers opened fire on a police party in the R.A Bazaar area late night, resulting in the arrest of one injured suspect while his accomplice managed to escape.

Police official told on Friday that the suspects, riding a motorcycle, were signaled to stop but instead, they opened fire at the police team. In the ensuing exchange, one robber was injured and taken into custody, while the other fled the scene.

The arrested suspect, identified as Waseem, is reportedly wanted in multiple robbery and theft cases in Rawalpindi and Sargodha.

Police also recovered a motorcycle and weapons from his possession.

The motorcycle had been snatched at gunpoint from a citizen in the Race Course area a few days earlier.

During the incident, Constable Asad Ali was hit by a bullet but remained safe due to his bulletproof jacket.

Senior police officers reached the spot along with heavy police contingent, and a search operation is underway to arrest the fleeing suspect. The injured robber has been shifted to hospital for treatment.

City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Mehmood Hamdani praised the police team for their timely action, stating that those who attack police and endanger citizens will be brought to justice.
