Dera Ismail Khan, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Apr, 2026) Regional Police Officer (RPO) Dera Ismail Khan Ghulam Mubashir Mekan on Tuesday said the media plays a key role in society and reaffirmed that the police would make every sacrifice to protect the lives, property, and dignity of citizens.
He made these remarks during a special interaction with journalists at the Ejaz Shaheed Police Lines. The meeting was also attended by District Police Officer Ziauddin Ahmed and SP City Muhammad Noman.
RPO Mekan said terrorists aimed to weaken the state and its institutions, but stressed that security forces and the public stood united against such threats.
He added that extremist elements had no link with islam, and vowed that their designs would be defeated collectively.
He said the media could contribute positively to improving policing by sharing constructive suggestions for curbing crime, adding that his office remained open to the public at all times.
During the interactive session, journalists raised questions and offered recommendations regarding crime prevention and police performance, which the RPO responded to individually.
Highlighting the challenges faced by the Dera region, he said police were actively dealing with both terrorism and other law-and-order issues. He praised the resilience and hospitality of the people of Dera Ismail Khan.
He noted that 257 police personnel had embraced martyrdom in the line of duty, calling them the pride of the force.
RPO Mekan also said a target had been set to complete the Safe City Project by May 7, 2026. He expressed confidence that the public of Dera Ismail Khan continued to stand with the police and security agencies.
He further stated that Pakistan holds a significant position in promoting peace in the region and warned that hostile elements sought to destabilize the country. However, he said such attempts would be foiled through public cooperation with law enforcement agencies.
He added that the police would continue efforts to eliminate crime and terrorism, and urged citizens to maintain close cooperation with law enforcement for lasting peace.
