DERA ISMAIL KHAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Jun, 2026) Regional Police Officer (RPO) Ghulam Mubashir Mekan on Thursday chaired a meeting to review the security arrangements for Muharram-ul-Haram and assess the overall law and order situation across the district.
The meeting was attended by District Police Officer (DPO), Dera Ziauddin Ahmed, senior police officers, including SP Investigation, SP FRP, SP Headquarters, SP Saddar, SP City, SP Paharpur, SP Security, DSP Elite Force, DSP Traffic, Special Branch officials, SDPOs, and officers from the Bomb Disposal Unit and District Special Branch.
During the meeting, the participants reviewed the district’s security environment, potential terrorism threats, sectarian harmony, security measures for religious gatherings and processions, traffic management plans, and emergency response mechanisms for Muharram. DPO Ziauddin Ahmed briefed the participants on the district’s comprehensive security plan for the holy month.
Addressing the meeting, RPO Ghulam Mubashir Mekan said maintaining peace and ensuring public safety during Muharram was both a national responsibility and a significant security challenge in light of the prevailing security situation in the country and the region.
He emphasized that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police possesses the professional capability, experience, and commitment to thwart attempts to disturb the peace.
The RPO reiterated a zero-tolerance policy against hate speech, provocative remarks, sectarian incitement, and any activities that could disrupt public order.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>He directed officers to maintain close coordination with religious scholars, peace committees, procession organizers, and community leaders to further strengthen interfaith harmony, mutual trust, and social cohesion.
He also instructed law enforcement agencies to intensify search-and-strike operations, intelligence-based actions, snap checking, and security checkpoints while making greater use of modern technology to enhance surveillance and threat detection.
The meeting stressed the importance of close coordination with the district administration, Rescue 1122, WAPDA, Sui Gas, the Health Department, Tehsil Municipal Administrations, and other relevant agencies to ensure an effective response to any emergency. Health authorities were directed to ensure the availability of ambulances, medical camps, and emergency healthcare facilities throughout Muharram.
At the end, RPO Mekan reaffirmed that maintaining peace, promoting religious harmony, and upholding the rule of law remain the police force’s top priorities. He expressed confidence that through public cooperation, inter-agency coordination, and a robust security strategy, Muharram would be observed peacefully, while strict legal action would be taken against anyone attempting to disturb the peace.
