FAISALABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Apr, 2026) Divisional Commissioner Musarrat Jabeen on Monday said that a massive infrastructure push worth over Rs.101 billion was underway to address long-standing sewerage,drainage and clean water issues in the city.
Chairing a meeting,she said the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) had accelerated multiple mega projects under the vision of Punjab Chief Minister(CM) Maryam Nawaz.
Expressing satisfaction over the pace of work,the commissioner stressed the need to expedite completion of ongoing projects to ensure timely relief for citizens.
She remarked that while WASA was on track in delivering essential services, the focus must remain on swift execution and visible improvements on the ground.
Highlighting transparency as a key priority,she declared zero tolerance for any irregularities in construction processes. She also announced plans to personally visit project sites to monitor progress and directed officials to ensure service delivery beyond public expectations.
Earlier,Managing Director WASA Saqib Raza briefed the meeting on development works,performance and timelines, stating that long-standing urban sanitation issues were being addressed through comprehensive development packages.
He said that 14 mega projects worth Rs.10 billion were being executed under the chief minister’s special package, while 18 additional schemes costing Rs12 billion were underway on the eastern and western sides of the city under the Punjab Development Program.
He added that four foreign-funded projects valued at Rs.79 billion were nearing completion.
The MD said WASA was engaged in rehabilitation of 2,110 kilometres of sewer lines and desilting of 49 kilometres of drains to ensure smooth drainage and prevent urban flooding, particularly during the monsoon.
He added that development packages also included construction and rehabilitation of roadside drains and roads, installation of manhole covers, and establishment of new sewerage networks in newly developed areas.
Additional Commissioner Coordination Tanveer Murtaza and senior WASA officials, including deputy managing directors, also attended the meeting.
