LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Apr, 2026) The Punjab Employees Social Security Institution (PESSI) has completed the process of opening bank accounts for over 1.2 million registered workers under the “Maryam Nawaz Ration Card” programme, fulfilling a commitment made by Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif to support labourers across the province.

According to a spokesperson, a total of Rs. 22 billion has so far been transferred to the accounts of more than 1.2 million workers under the ration subsidy initiative, while a monthly subsidy of Rs. 3,000 per registered worker continues to be disbursed.

The initiative was implemented by the Punjab Social Security Department under the patronage of Provincial Minister for Labour and Human Resources Muhammad Manshaullah Butt, with oversight from Secretary Labour Danish Afzal and Commissioner Social Security Zulfiqar Ali Kharral. The department completed the account-opening process in record time, finishing three months ahead of the set deadline.

The spokesperson said the swift execution reflects strong administrative coordination and an effective delivery mechanism designed to ensure direct financial relief to registered workers. The programme aims to provide consistent monthly support to improve the purchasing power and living conditions of labourers across the province.

Punjab Minister Muhammad Manshaullah Butt appreciated the performance of the Social Security Department and lauded its timely completion of the task. He said the initiative ensures that every registered worker benefits from the Chief Minister’s flagship ration support programme. He further stated that the monthly subsidy of Rs3,000 is already contributing to improving the financial stability of workers and strengthening their household economies.
