Rs 25.28b Lyari Transformation Project formally inaugurated

KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th Apr, 2026) The Lyari Transformation Project has been formally inaugurated on Thursday, with Sindh Minister for Local Government, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, attending the ceremony as the chief guest. The project, estimated at a cost of Rs 25.28 billion, includes development of roads, sewerage, water supply and beautification.

According to officials, the project will be completed within four years, while work on the first phase has already begun.

The inauguration of the Project was formally performed by Sindh Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah with Members of the Provincial Assembly of Pakistan Peoples Party, party leaders, local government representatives and a large number of residents in attendance on the occasion.

Addressing the ceremony, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said that Lyari was an important and historic area of Karachi which was neglected in the past; however, the present government was taking serious steps for its complete rehabilitation and development.

He said that the Lyari Transformation Project was a major step towards resolving long-standing issues of the area and would significantly improve the quality of life of its residents.

According to officials, the total cost of the mega project has been estimated at Rs25.28 billion, and it will be completed within four years, with completion expected by 2029.

The first phase of the project has already commenced, focusing primarily on restoration of basic infrastructure.

Under the project, modern roads will be constructed in Lyari, and a network of roads will be developed across the area to ease traffic flow. In addition, new water supply lines will be laid and existing ones will be repaired to ensure provision of clean drinking water and address water shortages on a permanent basis.

Improvement of the drainage system is also a key component of the project, under which new sewerage lines will be installed and the existing system will be upgraded to prevent accumulation of rainwater during monsoon seasons. Comprehensive measures will also be taken for cleaning and improvement of storm-water drains.

The project also includes better management of underground cabling, which will not only improve the electricity system but also enhance the overall aesthetics of the area.

Alongside this, a comprehensive beautification plan has been devised for Lyari, under which parks, green belts, and other public spaces will be upgraded.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, the minister directed the concerned authorities to maintain the pace of work and ensure quality, so that the project is completed within the stipulated time and its benefits reach the people of Lyari at the earliest.
