ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Mar, 2026) A domestic worker accused in a theft case involving around Rs 250 million has been acquitted by a court in Islamabad after the prosecution failed to present evidence.

The court noted that only Rs 2,000 was recovered during the investigation despite claims of a large theft.

Judicial Magistrate Islamabad East Rizwanuddin accepted the acquittal plea of Rukhsana Bibi in the case registered at Loi Bher police station in January 2024. A resident of the PWD area had accused the domestic worker of stealing Rs 400,000, £500,000, and 500,000 Saudi Riyals from her house.

The defence counsel, Habib Hanzala Advocate, argued that the accused was innocent and had been implicated in a false case out of malice. The court record showed that charges were framed against the accused on September 18, 2025, and the prosecution was given several chances to present witnesses.

However, no witness appeared before the court despite repeated opportunities. The court observed that even if evidence was recorded, the chances of conviction were minimal based on the available record.

In its written decision, the court questioned the claim that such a large amount of money was kept at home and that access was given to a domestic worker. It also noted that no legal or documentary proof was presented regarding the theft of foreign Currency.

The court termed the prosecution’s case doubtful and stated that under settled law, the benefit of doubt must be given to the accused. It further said continuing the trial would waste judicial time that could be used for other cases.

The court also pointed out that the recovered Rs 2,000 had no identifying details and held no legal value and the accused Rukhsana Bibi was acquitted under Section 249-A of the Criminal Procedure Code.
