Rs1.9bln development works gain momentum in Mohmand Dam-affected areas

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Jun, 2026) Development projects worth billions of rupees being implemented in communities affected by the Mohmand Dam Hydropower Project are progressing steadily, with authorities emphasizing timely execution to maximize socio-economic benefits for local residents.

A review meeting held in Mohmand district assessed the status of ongoing welfare schemes funded under WAPDA’s confidence-building initiatives, said a press release.

Officials from Federal and provincial departments, elected representatives and project authorities discussed strategies to accelerate implementation and resolve administrative hurdles.

The meeting was informed that WAPDA has earmarked Rs4.5 billion for development initiatives aimed at improving living standards in areas impacted by the construction of the Mohmand Dam. Of this amount, projects worth Rs1.9 billion are currently being executed under the first phase, focusing on road infrastructure, water supply, education and other essential public services.

Participants reviewed progress on major schemes, including road connectivity projects and water supply systems designed to improve access to basic facilities in remote communities.

Plans for the construction of new educational institutions were also discussed as part of efforts to strengthen social infrastructure in the district.

Officials stressed the importance of maintaining transparency, quality standards and close coordination among implementing agencies to ensure that projects are completed within the stipulated timeframe.

They noted that the initiatives are expected to create long-term economic opportunities and enhance public services for thousands of residents.

The meeting concluded with a commitment from all stakeholders to address technical and administrative challenges promptly and ensure that development benefits reach affected communities without delay.
