LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Feb, 2026) The district administration imposed Rs110,000 in fines during a citywide

crackdown against profiteers and hoarders here on Monday.

The crackdown led to a noticeable reduction in the prices of broiler chicken and several

vegetables.

Under the special instructions of the Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali Ejaz, Assistant

Commissioners and Price Control Magistrates intensified field inspections across markets

to ensure strict implementation of official rate lists. Large-scale checking was

conducted in vegetable, fruit and poultry markets, and stern action was taken against

overcharging.

As a result of continuous monitoring, the price of broiler chicken meat decreased by Rs5 per kilogram,

while farm eggs remained stable at Rs 240 per dozen. Among vegetables, potato prices dropped

by Rs2 per kilogram, while carrots, moongre and tinda saw reductions of up to Rs10 per kilogram. The price of ladyfinger also decreased by Rs10 per kilogram. Prices of onion, tomato, ginger, garlic, and fruits including Apple, kinnow and pomegranate remained stable.

Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali Ejaz directed that strict legal action be taken against shopkeepers

who fail to prominently display official rate lists, reiterating that no hoarder would be allowed

to exploit citizens.

For public convenience, the district administration has activated a control room helpline (03070002345) for complaints regarding overcharging, while the Deputy Commissioner’s Office remains accessible on social media platforms for guidance and prompt redressal of grievances.

Meanwhile, the DC has intensified field monitoring to ensure transparent distribution of the Chief Minister Punjab’s “Ramadan Nigehban Package,” dismissing five surveyors over poor performance and deploying additional teams in Wagah and Cantt. Door-to-door verification and ration card distribution are underway across Lahore, with special arrangements made for elderly citizens and women, while strict supervision continues to ensure merit-based delivery to deserving families.
